Gymnastics Studio Project
The north side of the O’Connell Center is in the process of a major facelift. The Gator Gymnastics team, coming off of a 2nd place finish at the NCAA Championships, will be the recipients of an upgraded practice gym. The gymnastics studio will be transformed into a state-of-the-art facility by the end of 2012, with construction underway.
Existing Gymnastics Practice Facility

The University of Florida Athletic Association approved and funded this $4 million project and once complete, the Gators will have one of the best practice facilities in the nation. The wall on the north side of the O’Connell Center will be demolished and moved outward to accommodate the renovation. When finished, the studio will be more than 18,500 square feet; approximately 6,700 square feet larger than the current space. The gymnastics’ staff and coaches’ offices will also be incorporated into the new practice area. Their offices are currently located on the opposite side of the arena from the studio.

The UF Gymnastics team is also excited that several new features will be incorporated into the practice studio including HD video recorders and monitors at every workout station to provide instant feedback for all gymnasts. Expanded training and massage rooms, a lobby with a trophy case as well as seats for visiting recruits and their parents will also be included.
Finished Interior of the Completed Gymnastics Practice Facility

The Gators Gymnastics team has been among the nation’s best in the past few years, and the new practice facility aims at keeping them at the top.
“We’re very happy with what we’ve had, but it’s time to get updated and renovated and we need more space,’’ Faehn said. “It’s going to be brought into modern times. It’s going to be one of the largest gyms in the country and one of the most up-to-date.
