Part Time - Student Employment

Introduction:
Thank you for your interest in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. As one of the largest part time employers for students on campus, the O'Connell Center provides the opportunity to work flexible hours in an exciting and dynamic environment. Part time employment takes place in three departments: Usher/Changeover, Security, and Technical. Staff is hired for all positions rather than a particular department. The O'Connell Center offers a convenient workplace, with great opportunities for advancement and an exciting atmosphere of teamwork and dedication. In return, we ask you to be a responsible, friendly team player who takes our job responsibilities seriously.

Job Requirements:
The O'Connell Center part time student employment offers one of the most flexible job opportunities for students on campus. You have the ability to schedule yourself around your classes and your busy lifestyle. We are an employer who understands that your classes and school come first. Simply put, you sign yourself up for only the events and shifts that you are available to work. We do ask for a few commitments so please make sure you are able to fulfill the following requirements prior to applying:

The Hiring Process:

Part 1: Application Procedures
The O'Connell Center hires on an on-going basis. Your first step in becoming a member of our team is to complete the application process. This process consists of submitting an O'Connell Center application with a set of preliminary questions and watching a pre-interview slide show.A link to the application and the powerpoint is located under "Apply Here" at the bottom of this page. Future correspondence will be done electronically so it is critical that on your application you include an accurate ( and legible) email address that you check frequently. Please turn in your application to the Employee Relations Office of the O'Connell Center between the hours of 8am and 4:30pm (Gate 4, Level 1, Room 1302). You may also email your application to the center at . Please make sure your application is complete before turning it in. This includes providing the code, answering all questions on the application and providing a clear email address.

Part 2: Interviews
Once applications have been received, they will be reviewed and interviews will be set up with potential candidates. Notice of hire will be sent at the conclusion of all interviews via email.

Part 3: Required Hire Paperwork
Instructions on how to complete the hire package, including a comprehensive checklist with all necessary documents needed for employment and where to bring these documents will be provided in the email. This checklist is also located at the bottom of this page. This package must be completed and turned in to our Employee Relations Office, before signing up for a mandatory orientation.

Part 4: Orientation
Orientation takes place following each cycle and is necessary to complete before beginning work. If you are unable to attend orientation the month of your hire you are welcome to attend the following cycle's orientation. You will have two opportunities to attend orientation before it is necessary for you to reapply. Once orientation is complete, you may begin signing up for work and the real fun begins!

SPECIAL NOTES REGARDING EMPLOYMENT:
Unfortunately, transportation and parking is the responsibility of the employee.  All employees are expected to follow the standards set forth by the University of Florida.  For more information about parking passes and the requirements to obtain one, please visit:  http://www.parking.ufl.edu/.  Current University of Florida students should note their status as a student supersedes that of an employee when obtaining a parking permit. While all employees begin at a pay rate of $7.25 per hour, we feel the experience you will gain here is invaluable. Also, the great news is there are ways to earn raises through promotions into our Supervisor Program and through awards such as Employee of the Month. Finally, due to the number of applications we receive, we can only accept one application per individual in a 6 month period. After the 6 months have passed, you are welcome to reapply.

SPECIAL NOTES FOR PAPERWORK COMPLETION:
First, and most important, you must have a social security card (a photocopy or faxed copy is acceptable as long as it is signed). If you do not have one, please go by the Social Security office (1610 NW 23rd Ave; 352-375-4178). They can issue you a receipt with your number on it until your card is mailed; the receipt is sufficient for our needs. The only two items that will be accepted is the card itself or the receipt with your social security number on it. All other forms will not be accepted. You must have a valid Driver's License or an equivalent form of photo identification. Federal Work Study students must have a work permit which can be obtained through your ISIS account, under awards and distributions. Additionally, a voided check must be included with your direct deposit form. Please contact us for clarification on these materials.
